Foundation Goals - June 2006

To Inform

à We will publish a clinical reference guide to Blastocystis, bringing together existing research on the subject into a single text.
(DONE - September 2006)

à We will develop a web site which provides links to the most current research on Blastocystis.  (Done - July 2006)

à We will work with existing agencies and entities, such as textbook publishers, governmental agencies, and reference web site providers, to ensure the most up-to-date information about Blastocystis is provided to the public. (IN PROGRESS)

To Promote Diagnosis

à We will partner with an existing medical diagnostics company to facilitate the commercial development and government approval of tests specific to the pathogenic variant of Blastocystis.  These would include serum antibody testing, PCR assay testing, and a selective fecal antigen test. (IN PROGRESS)

To Promote Treatment and Understanding

à We will work with public and private entities to encourage research into the treatment and pathology of Blastocystis, with special emphasis on developing treatment for refractory cases. (November 2006 - Oregon State University announces Blastocystis Research Project)
