Message: Can you recommend a gastroenterologist or even gp in Portland, Oregon who has experience and success treating blastocystosis? My husband and I have been battling this since April 2009 with both conventional drugs (Iodoquinol/Yodoxin) and naturopathic/dietary approaches. We test positive every time (Genova diagnostics). We are able to keep our symptoms somewhat under control now with naturopathic supplements (Enzy-Gest, Peony 9, Sacro-B, Para-Gard) and a diet of no refined carbs, minimal whole grains like quinoa, brown rice and millet, no sugar, no fruit, no dairy except some cottage cheese, a lot of fermented foods like miso, sauerkraut and kimchi, a lot of non-starchy vegetables, some non-fatty meat and some legumes. However, we continue to lose weight, have low energy and suffer other symptoms of a compromised immune system like frequent cold sores etc.
Many thanks,
----

Hi -----
Sorry for the delay in responding. I promised I would clean out my emails this weekend. I don't have any information on gastroenterologists. The teaching in medical schools is very out of date, and CDC has not done much to help move science into practice, so unfortunately, most of the doctors are in the same boat. Some people have had luck going to Oriental medicine practitioners. Some of the herbs they use actually may help knock down symptoms, though they would not cure the disease.
This is really miserable. I've been writing to our Congressman Kurt Schrader to get some action. I'm including articles on other people in Corvallis who are as sick as I've been. I'm trying to show this is a problem, and the federal agencies need to take action to get some decent treatment to doctors.
Anyway, his office has been sitting on this since September. I don't think they believe this is a serious problem. We just published our second study on Oregon patients, so I'm going to include that in my next letter to them.
Would you be willing to write your Representative, and send a copy to me and Representative Schrader? It would be great to have people writing letters to go with the scientific study.
Be sure to sign up for our newsletter if you have not already.
Best Wishes,
Ken Boorom
